Xeomin in Calgary

Xeomin

Xeomin is a brand of neuromodulator used to temporarily reduce targeted muscle activity and soften dynamic expression lines caused by repetitive facial movement.
At the symm label, choosing a neuromodulator is never simply about treating a wrinkle. We look at how your facial muscles work together, where movement is contributing to lines or imbalance, and how much natural expression you want to maintain before determining product, placement, and dose.
The active ingredient in Xeomin is incobotulinumtoxinA, a highly purified form of botulinum toxin type A. During manufacturing, complexing proteins are removed, leaving the active neurotoxin. Like other Wrinkle Relaxers, Xeomin works by temporarily interrupting communication between nerves and targeted muscles, allowing those muscles to relax and the skin above them to appear smoother.

Treatment Areas

Xeomin can be used to address facial movement, dynamic expression lines, and muscular balance. Depending on your individual assessment, treatment areas may include:
Brow lift
Bunny lines
Chin dimpling
Crow’s feet
Downturned mouth (DAO)
Facial slimming (masseters)
Forehead lines
Frown lines
Gummy smile
Jawline
Lip flip
Neck lines and jowls (Nefertifi lift)
Perioral lines (around the lips)
Treatment areas and dosing are always individualized. Your facial structure, muscle strength, existing movement, and desired outcome are considered together rather than treating individual lines in isolation.

Often, addressing multiple connected muscle groups allows us to create a more balanced result while preserving the expressions that make your face yours.

What to Expect

Your Nurse Injector will begin by assessing your facial anatomy at rest and in movement, reviewing your areas of concern, and confirming a Xeomin treatment plan tailored specifically to you.

Before treatment, the skin is thoroughly cleansed and precise injection points are mapped. Xeomin is administered using a very fine needle, with each injection typically feeling like a quick pinch or poke. Treatment generally takes 5–20 minutes, depending on the number of areas being addressed.

Mild redness, swelling, or small bumps may be visible immediately afterward and typically settle quickly. There is minimal expected downtime, and most patients can return to their regular day shortly after treatment.

Appointments at the symm label are never rushed. We take the time to understand how your face moves before deciding where treatment will benefit you, how much product is appropriate, and just as importantly, where we don’t need to treat.

Results & Longevity

Xeomin works gradually following treatment. Some patients begin noticing a change within the first several days, with the full effect of treatment assessed at approximately two weeks.

Results typically last around 3–4 months, although every patient responds differently. Muscle strength, dosing, treatment areas, metabolism, lifestyle, and consistency between appointments can all influence longevity.

Xeomin has its own product-specific dosing requirements. Units of botulinum toxin products are specific to their respective formulations and should not be directly compared or converted between products.

Your Nurse Injector will determine an appropriate dose based on your anatomy and desired level of movement, then refine your treatment plan over time based on how you respond.

Xeomin FAQ

Xeomin is an established botulinum toxin type A medication used for both therapeutic and aesthetic purposes.

Looking frozen is not the goal. Xeomin temporarily reduces activity in specifically targeted muscles, and your outcome depends on thoughtful placement and appropriate dosing.

At the symm label, we prioritize facial balance and natural expression. Before treatment, we’ll discuss how much movement you want to maintain and create a plan that reflects your preferences rather than applying the same treatment pattern to every patient.

Xeomin is not appropriate for everyone. Your medical history, medications, allergies, pregnancy or breastfeeding status, and other relevant factors will be reviewed before treatment.

Side effects are typically mild and temporary. Some patients experience redness, tenderness, swelling, or pinpoint bruising around injection sites, which generally resolves quickly.

Headache or a temporary sensation of heaviness may also occur. As with any neuromodulator, less common complications are possible and will be discussed with you during the informed consent process.

Your Nurse Injector will review potential risks before treatment and provide detailed post-care instructions afterward.

There is no universal “right” age to begin Xeomin or any other neuromodulator.

Some patients begin treatment when repetitive expressions start creating lines that remain visible at rest. Others choose to treat earlier to reduce the repetitive muscle movement contributing to those lines. Xeomin can also be introduced later in life as one component of a broader facial rejuvenation plan.

Rather than making recommendations based on age alone, we assess your facial anatomy, muscle activity, skin, and goals to determine whether treatment makes sense for you.

Xeomin injections are quick and generally well tolerated. A very fine needle is used, and most patients describe each injection as a brief pinch.

There is minimal expected downtime. Small bumps or redness may be visible immediately after treatment but usually resolve quickly. Pinpoint bruising is also possible.

Most patients can return to work and their regular daily activities shortly after leaving our Calgary clinic.

Xeomin is $10 per unit at the symm label in Calgary.

Your total treatment cost depends on the number of units required, which is influenced by your treatment areas, facial anatomy, muscle strength, and desired outcome. Your Nurse Injector will review recommended dosing and pricing with you before treatment.

Appropriate dosing matters for both treatment effectiveness and longevity. Our goal isn’t to use the fewest units possible. It’s to use the right dose for you while maintaining the level of natural movement you prefer.

Xeomin treatments at the symm label are performed by Registered Nurse Injectors and Nurse Practitioners with advanced training in facial anatomy, neuromodulator dosing, and injectable treatments.

Our nursing team works under the direction of our Owner and Advanced Nurse Injector, alongside our Medical Director.

Injectables are our primary focus. That experience allows us to consider how treating one muscle can influence movement elsewhere in the face and create a plan based on facial balance rather than individual wrinkles alone.

There is minimal preparation required before Xeomin. We recommend:

  • Getting a good night’s sleep
  • Staying well hydrated
  • Eating before your appointment
  • Limiting alcohol beforehand to help minimize bruising
  • Limiting excessive caffeine prior to treatment

You are welcome to arrive makeup-free, although your skin will always be thoroughly cleansed before treatment.

Any recommendations specific to your medical history, medications, or treatment plan will be reviewed with you before your appointment.

Post-care instructions are reviewed with you after your appointment and emailed to you for easy reference.

In general, we recommend avoiding strenuous activity, saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs for 24 hours. Avoid lying flat for approximately four hours and minimize pressure on treated areas during this time. Facial treatments and massage should also be avoided for at least 24 hours.

Your Nurse Injector will provide any additional recommendations specific to your treatment areas.

If this is your first Xeomin treatment or your first neuromodulator appointment at the symm label, we recommend a complimentary two-week follow up.

This allows Xeomin adequate time to take effect before we assess your results, compare before and after photos, and evaluate your facial movement and balance.

If an adjustment is clinically appropriate, it can be discussed at this appointment. We do not recommend adding additional product before the two-week mark.

You may begin noticing a change within several days of your Xeomin treatment, with the full effect assessed at approximately two weeks.

Results typically last around 3–4 months, although longevity varies from patient to patient. Your dose, muscle strength, metabolism, treatment areas, lifestyle, and individual response can all influence how long your results last.

As Xeomin gradually wears off, muscle movement slowly returns rather than changing suddenly.
