Dysport Aesthetic in Calgary

Dysport

Dysport Aesthetic is a brand of neuromodulator used to temporarily reduce targeted muscle activity and soften dynamic expression lines caused by repetitive facial movements.
At the symm label, Dysport is used as part of a highly individualized approach to facial movement and balance. We consider how your muscles work together, where movement is contributing to lines or imbalance, and how much movement you want to maintain before determining placement and dosing.
The active ingredient in Dysport is abobotulinumtoxinA, a purified botulinum toxin type A protein. Like other Wrinkle Relaxers, it works by temporarily interrupting communication between nerves and targeted muscles. As muscle activity decreases, the skin above it can appear smoother while natural expression is maintained.

Treatment Areas

Dysport can be used to address facial movement, expression lines, and muscular balance across a variety of areas. Common treatment areas at our Calgary clinic include:
Brow lift
Bunny lines
Chin dimpling
Crow’s feet
Downturned mouth (DAO)
Facial slimming (masseters)
Forehead lines
Frown lines
Gummy smile
Jawline
Lip flip
Neck lines and jowls (Nefertifi lift)
Perioral lines (around the lips)
Treatment areas and dosing are always tailored to the patient. Your facial anatomy, muscle strength, existing movement, and desired outcome are considered together to create a treatment plan that feels balanced rather than simply treating individual lines as they appear.

What to Expect

Dysport results develop gradually following treatment. Some patients begin to notice changes within the first few days, with the full effect assessed at approximately two weeks.

Results typically last around 3–4 months, though treatment longevity varies from person to person based on muscle strength, dosing, metabolism, treatment areas, lifestyle, and individual response.

Dysport has its own product-specific dosing system. Dysport units are not equivalent to Botox or Xeomin units, so the number of units used cannot be directly compared between brands. Your Nurse Injector will determine the appropriate Dysport dose based on your anatomy and desired result.

Over time, we can refine your treatment plan based on how you respond, how long your results last, and how much movement you prefer between appointments.

Results & Longevity

Botox Cosmetic results develop gradually. You may begin to notice changes within the first several days, with the full effect of treatment typically assessed at approximately two weeks.

Results gradually last around 3-4 months, though every patient metabolizes Botox differently. Your dosage, muscle strength, metabolism, treatment areas, lifestyle, and consistency between appointments can all influence longevity.

Dosing matters. Too little product may result in less effective treatment or results that wear off sooner, which is why we dose based on your anatomy and muscle activity rather than working toward an arbitrary number of units.

Your Nurse Injector will recommend a maintenance schedule based on how you respond to treatment and how much movement you prefer to maintain between appointments.

Dysport FAQ

Dysport Aesthetic is Health Canada authorized for specific cosmetic indications and has an established history of aesthetic and therapeutic use.

Looking frozen is not the goal. Dysport temporarily reduces activity in targeted muscles, but the result depends heavily on where the product is placed and how it is dosed.

At the symm label, we prioritize natural expression and facial balance. Your Nurse Injector will assess your movement and discuss how much movement you would like to maintain before creating your treatment plan.

Dysport is not appropriate for everyone. Your medical history, medications, allergies, pregnancy or breastfeeding status, and other relevant factors will be reviewed before treatment.

Side effects are typically mild and temporary. Redness, swelling, tenderness, or pinpoint bruising can occur around injection sites and generally resolves quickly.

Some patients may experience a temporary headache or sensation of heaviness following treatment. Less common complications are possible with any neuromodulator and will be discussed as part of your consultation and informed consent.

Your Nurse Injector will review potential risks with you before treatment and provide detailed post-care instructions afterward.

There is no single “right” age to begin neuromodulator treatment.

Some patients choose Dysport preventatively to reduce repetitive movement before expression lines become more established. Others begin treatment once lines remain visible when the face is at rest.

We don’t recommend Dysport based on age alone. Your facial anatomy, muscle movement, skin, concerns, and personal preferences are more important in determining whether treatment makes sense for you.

Dysport treatment is quick and generally well tolerated. A very fine needle is used, and most patients describe the injections as brief pinches.

There is minimal expected downtime. Small injection site bumps or redness may be visible immediately afterward but usually resolve quickly. Pinpoint bruising can occasionally occur.

Most patients can return to work and their usual daily activities shortly after leaving our Calgary clinic.

At the symm label, neuromodulator treatments are $10 per unit. Your total Dysport treatment cost will depend on the areas being treated, muscle strength, anatomy, and the dose required to achieve your desired outcome.

Importantly, Dysport units cannot be directly compared with Botox units. Each neuromodulator has its own unit measurement and dosing requirements, so a higher numerical Dysport dose does not mean you are receiving “more Botox.”

Your Nurse Injector will review your recommended treatment and pricing with you before you proceed.

Dysport treatments at the symm label are performed by Registered Nurse Injectors and Nurse Practitioner Injectors with advanced training in facial anatomy, neuromodulator dosing, and injectable treatments.

Our nursing team works under the direction of our Owner and Advanced Nurse Injector, alongside our Medical Director.

Injectables are our primary focus. That experience allows us to assess more than an individual wrinkle and understand how changing the movement of one muscle can influence the balance and expression of the face as a whole.

There is minimal preparation required before Dysport. We recommend:

  • Getting a good night’s sleep
  • Staying well hydrated
  • Eating before your appointment
  • Limiting alcohol beforehand to help minimize bruising
  • Limiting excessive caffeine prior to treatment

You are welcome to arrive makeup-free, although your skin will always be thoroughly cleansed before treatment.

Any recommendations specific to your medical history, medications, or treatment plan will be reviewed with you before your appointment.

Post-care instructions are reviewed after your appointment and emailed to you for easy reference.

In general, we recommend avoiding strenuous activity, saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs for 24 hours. Avoid lying flat for approximately four hours and minimize pressure on the treated areas during this time. Facial treatments and massage should also be avoided for at least 24 hours.

Your Nurse Injector will provide any additional instructions specific to your treatment areas.

If this is your first Dysport treatment or your first neuromodulator appointment at the symm label, we recommend a complimentary two-week follow up.

This gives the Dysport time to take full effect before we assess your results, compare before and after photos, and evaluate facial movement and balance.

If an adjustment is clinically appropriate, it can be discussed at this appointment. We do not recommend adding additional Dysport before the two-week mark.

Some patients begin noticing changes within the first few days following Dysport, with the full treatment effect assessed at approximately two weeks.

Results typically last around 3–4 months, though longevity varies between patients. Dosing, muscle strength, metabolism, treatment area, lifestyle, and individual response can all influence how long your results last.

Movement gradually returns as the effects of Dysport wear off rather than changing suddenly.
