Botox Cosmetic in Calgary

Botox

Botox is one of the most recognized brands of neuromodulator, an injectable treatment used to temporarily reduce targeted muscle activity and soften the appearance of dynamic expression lines.
At the symm label, Botox is never about removing every line or freezing expression. We consider how the muscles of the face work together and customize placement and dosing to create balance while maintaining natural movement.
The active ingredient in Botox is onabotulinumtoxinA, a purified protein that works by temporarily blocking nerve signals to specific muscles. As muscle activity decreases, the skin above it can appear smoother and expression lines become less noticeable. Botox Cosmetic is Health Canada authorized for the treatment of upper facial lines, including forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet, as well as platysma prominence in the neck.

Treatment Areas

Botox Cosmetic can be used to address facial movement, expression lines, and muscular balance in a variety of areas. Common treatment areas at our Calgary clinic include:
Brow lift
Bunny lines
Chin dimpling
Crow’s feet
Downturned mouth (DAO)
Facial slimming (masseters)
Forehead lines
Frown lines
Gummy smile
Jawline
Lip flip
Neck lines and jowls (Nefertifi lift)
Perioral lines (around the lips)
Treatment areas and dosing are never one-size-fits-all. Your facial anatomy, muscle strength, existing movement, and desired outcome are considered together to determine where Botox should be placed and how much is appropriate.

Often, treating multiple connected muscle groups allows us to create a more balanced result than focusing on one area in isolation.

What to Expect

Your Nurse Injector will begin by assessing your facial anatomy and movement, reviewing your areas of concern, and confirming a Botox treatment plan tailored specifically to you.

Before treatment, the skin is thoroughly cleansed and precise injection points are mapped. Botox Cosmetic is administered using a very fine needle, with each injection typically feeling like a quick pinch or poke. Treatment generally takes 5-20 minutes, depending on the number of areas being addressed.

Mild redness, swelling, or small bumps may be visible immediately afterward and typically settle quickly. There is minimal expected downtime, and most patients can return to their usual day shortly after their appointment.

At the symm label, we do not rush treatment. Time is taken to assess how your muscles move together and determine appropriate dosing and placement before we inject.

Results & Longevity

Botox Cosmetic results develop gradually. You may begin to notice changes within the first several days, with the full effect of treatment typically assessed at approximately two weeks.

Results gradually last around 3-4 months, though every patient metabolizes Botox differently. Your dosage, muscle strength, metabolism, treatment areas, lifestyle, and consistency between appointments can all influence longevity.

Dosing matters. Too little product may result in less effective treatment or results that wear off sooner, which is why we dose based on your anatomy and muscle activity rather than working toward an arbitrary number of units.

Your Nurse Injector will recommend a maintenance schedule based on how you respond to treatment and how much movement you prefer to maintain between appointments.

Botox FAQ

Botox Cosmetic has been extensively studied and is Health Canada authorized for specific cosmetic indications in adults. When administered by an appropriately trained medical professional following recommended dosing and technique, it has an established safety profile.

Looking frozen is not the goal. Botox temporarily reduces targeted muscle activity, but thoughtful dosing and placement can soften expression lines while preserving natural facial movement.

At the symm label, we assess how your muscles work together before determining your dose. If you prefer more movement, just let your Nurse Injector know! Your treatment should always reflect how you want to look and feel.

Botox Cosmetic is not appropriate for everyone, and certain medical conditions, medications, allergies, pregnancy, or breastfeeding may affect candidacy. Your medical history will be reviewed before treatment.

Side effects are typically mild and temporary. Some patients experience redness, swelling, tenderness, or pinpoint bruising around injection sites shortly after treatment.

Headache or a temporary sensation of heaviness can also occur. Less common complications are possible with any neuromodulator treatment and will be reviewed with you as part of the informed consent process.

Your Nurse Injector will discuss potential risks before you decide to proceed and provide instructions for what to look for following treatment.

There is no universally “right” age to start Botox.

Some patients choose Botox when they begin noticing expression lines that remain visible at rest, while others start earlier to reduce repetitive muscle movement before those lines become more established. Botox can also be introduced later in life as part of a broader approach to facial aging.

Rather than treating based on age alone, we look at your facial movement, anatomy, skin, and goals to determine whether Botox makes sense for you.

Botox injections are quick and generally well tolerated. A very fine needle is used, and most patients describe each injection as a brief pinch.

There is minimal expected downtime after Botox. Small bumps or redness at injection sites may be visible immediately afterward but typically resolve quickly. Pinpoint bruising is also possible.

Most patients can return to work and regular daily activities shortly after leaving our Calgary clinic.

Botox Cosmetic is $10 per unit at the symm label in Calgary. Most treatments range from approximately 25–100 units, depending on the areas being treated, muscle strength, anatomy, and desired result.

Your final cost is determined by the number of units appropriate for your treatment plan. Pricing and recommended dosing are reviewed with you before treatment so you understand exactly what is being recommended and why.

We don’t believe in under-dosing simply to reach a lower price point. Appropriate dosing supports both the effectiveness and longevity of your treatment. Dose = Duration.

Botox treatments at the symm label are performed by Registered Nurse Injectors and Nurse Practitioner Injectors with advanced training in facial anatomy, neuromodulator dosing, and injectable treatments.

Our nursing team works under the direction of our Owner and Advanced Nurse Injector, alongside our Medical Director.

Injectables are what we do, all day, every day. That experience allows us to look beyond an individual wrinkle and consider how treating one muscle may influence the movement and balance of the rest of your face.

There is minimal preparation required before Botox. We recommend:

  • Getting a good night’s sleep
  • Staying well hydrated
  • Eating before your appointment
  • Limiting alcohol beforehand to help minimize bruising
  • Limiting excessive caffeine before treatment

You are welcome to arrive makeup-free, though your skin will always be thoroughly cleansed before treatment.

Any recommendations specific to your medical history, medications, or treatment plan will be reviewed with you beforehand.

Post-care instructions are reviewed with you after your Botox appointment and emailed to you for easy reference.

In general, we recommend avoiding strenuous activity, saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs for 24 hours. Avoid lying flat for approximately four hours and minimize pressure on treated areas during this time. Facial treatments and massage should also be avoided for at least 24 hours.

Your Nurse Injector will provide instructions specific to your treatment areas before you leave the clinic.

If this is your first Botox treatment or your first neuromodulator appointment at the symm label, we recommend a complimentary two-week follow up.

This allows us to assess your results once the Botox has taken full effect, compare your before and after photos, and evaluate your dosing and facial balance.

If an adjustment is clinically appropriate, it can be discussed at this appointment. We do not recommend adding additional Botox before the two-week mark because the initial treatment needs adequate time to fully take effect.

You may begin noticing changes within several days of your Botox treatment, but we allow approximately two weeks to assess the full effect.

For most patients, Botox results last approximately 3–4 months. Longevity varies depending on dosing, treatment area, muscle strength, metabolism, lifestyle, and individual response.

Your results will gradually soften rather than disappearing overnight as muscle movement slowly returns.
