Neuromodulators | Botox, Dysport, Xeomin

Wrinkle Relaxers

Neuromodulators are a type of injectable treatment commonly referred to as “Botox,” though Botox is simply one brand within a broader category that also includes Dysport, Xeomin, Nuceiva, and Letybo.

At the symm label, we offer Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®, which are Health Canada-approved neuromodulators. These purified proteins are used to reduce fine lines and soften dynamic expression lines by reducing targeted muscle activity in specific areas of the face.
Neuromodulators do not freeze or paralyze the face. Instead, they work by temporarily blocking the transmission of nerve impulses and reception where the neuromodulator is injected, allowing overactive muscles to relax. When placed thoughtfully and precisely, this results in smoother skin while maintaining natural expression and movement.

Treatment Areas

Neuromodulators can be used to treat a range of facial concerns by relaxing targeted muscles and restoring balance to facial movement. Commonly treated areas include:
Brow lift
Bunny lines
Chin dimpling
Crow’s feet
Downturned mouth (DAO)
Facial slimming (masseters)
Forehead lines
Frown lines
Gummy smile
Jawline
Lip flip
Neck lines and jowls (Nefertifi lift)
Perioral lines (around the lips)
Treatment areas and dosing are always individualized. Depending on facial structure, muscle strength, and desired outcome, multiple areas are often treated together to achieve balanced, natural-looking results.

What to Expect

Your Nurse Injector will begin by reviewing your areas of concern and confirming a treatment plan tailored to your facial structure, muscle strength, and desired outcome.

Before the treatment, the skin is thoroughly cleansed and precise injection points will be mapped by your Nurse Injector. Neuromodulators are administered using a small, fine needle and are typically described as feeling like tiny pinches or pokes. Treatment time generally ranges from 5-20 minutes depending on the number of areas being treated.

Mild redness or swelling may occur immediately following treatment and is considered completely normal. There is no expected downtime and patients can resume their normal activities right away.

Results & Longevity

Results from neuromodulators develop gradually and typically become fully visible within two weeks. Most patients can expect results to last approximately 3-4 months, though this varies based on individual factors.

Dosing is highly individualized and depends on muscle strength, facial anatomy, and treatment goals. Some patients notice early changes within a few days, while others require the full two-week period for results to settle. For this reason, additional dosing is not recommended before the two-week mark.

Treatment longevity and effectiveness can be influenced by factors such as metabolism, lifestyle habits (including sleep, diet, water intake, exercise, age genetics), stress levels, activity, and the time between treatments. Your Nurse Injector will guide you on optimal timing for maintenance to support consistent, natural results.

Always have great experiences here with Jill and Joanna getting my treatments (forehead, lip flip, and masseyter botox). Warm and welcoming environment, and injectors are super knowledgable and informative. Would definitely recommend.

I am so happy with my filler and Botox results with Elli! She’s so sweet and welcoming and made me feel so comfortable. She made sure to follow up as well which was awesome! Will be coming back for future treatments!

You could not be in better hands. I have been seeing Jillian for the last few years. Starting with volume loss in my lips right before my wedding. I was born with naturally full lips that lost significant volume due to age, stress and environment. She restored them and continues to keep them natural and "hydrated" looking. Same goes for her botox work. I was so nervous to look "frozen" or look "like I had botox". She is an expert at getting natural results to have you look your best. Her philosophy of not "overdoing it" is impeccable.

I've been going to The Symm Label for the last year and have nothing but great things to say. The clinic itself is very clean and inviting. I've had Botox sessions with Joanna and she is terrific. She listens to my concerns and makes a plan that is tailored to my needs without trying to push additional treatments. She is also very knowledgable about skincare and can give great tips and suggestions that don't break the bank!

Wrinkle Relaxers FAQ

Neuromodulators are widely studied and considered safe when administered by a qualified medical professional. Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are regulated injectable medications and have a strong safety profile.

You will not look frozen or numb. Desired outcomes are discussed in detail during your consultation, and dosing is tailored to your facial anatomy and movement. Our approach prioritized balance and natural expression. For first-time patients, we often start conservatively and reassess at your two week follow-up if adjustments are needed.

Neuromodulators are not recommended for patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or who have certain neurological conditions. This is reviewed during intake and consultation.

Side effects from Botox and other neuromodulators are typically minimal and temporary, if at all. Some patients may experience mild redness, irritation, swelling or pinpoint bruising at the injection sites, which usually resolves within hours.

Occasionally, patients can report a mild headache or a sensation of heaviness following treatment. This is normal and typically subsides within a few days. Tylenol may be used for minor discomfort following treatment.

Neuromodulators like Botox can be used by adults over the age of 18. There is no “right” age to start.

These treatments are often used preventatively to soften repetitive muscle movement before lines deepen, but they can also be beneficial later in life. Your Nurse Injector will guide you on how treatment can support your goals at any stage of life.

Treatment is quick and generally well tolerated. Ultra-fine needles are used, and discomfort is often described as brief pinches.

There is no expected downtime following a Botox treatment. Most patients return to normal activities immediately, and some patients even schedule treatments during a lunch break! Ice may be used post-treatment to minimize swelling or discomfort.

We charge $10 per unit for Botox and other neuromodulators at the symm label. Most treatments range from 25-100 units.

Final cost of Botox treatment varies based on dosing, which is influenced by factors such as facial anatomy, muscle activity, age, and treatment goals. All pricing is reviewed in detail during your complimentary consultation.

It’s important to note that dosing impacts both results and longevity. If you opt for a lower dose, it may wear off sooner and provide less effective results, meaning you’ll need to return for a second treatment sooner. Optimal dosing supports better outcomes and longer-lasting effects. Remember: Dose = Duration!

All neuromodulator treatments are performed by Registered Nurse Injectors with advanced training in facial anatomy and neuromodulator placement.

Our nursing team works under the direction of our Owner and Advanced Nurse Injector, alongside our Medical Director. Injectables are our primary focus, and patient safety and precision are always prioritized.

There is minimal preparation required prior to Botox. We recommend:

  • Getting a good night’s sleep
  • Staying well hydrated
  • Eating prior to your appointment

Avoiding alcohol and limiting caffeine beforehand may help reduce bruising. You’re welcome to arrive makeup-free, though the skin will be thoroughly cleansed before treatment.

Post-care instructions are provided after your appointment verbally, as well as emailed to you. In general, we recommend:

  • Avoid strenuous activity for 24 hours
  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs for 24 hours
  • Do not lie flat for 4 hours
  • Avoid pressure on treated areas for 4 hours
  • Avoid facial treatments or massage for 24 hours

These guidelines help ensure the product stays where it was injected, and the muscles are not manipulated to move the product around.

If it’s your first Botox treatment or your first visit to the symm label, we recommend a complimentary two week follow up appointment.

This visit allows us to assess results, review before and after photos, and make minor adjustments if needed (although not common). Everyone responds differently, and this appointment helps ensure you’re 100% happy with your results.

Initial results from Botox and other neuromodulators may appear within 3-7 days, with full effects visible at two weeks.

Results typically last 3-4 months, though longevity varies. With consistent treatment, some patients notice longer-lasting results over time.
